A newsagent’s counter runs on small, quick sales and a lot of paperwork: today’s delivery note, yesterday’s returns, news vouchers, paper bills and age checks on scratchcards and tobacco. Switch&Save EPOS keeps all of it at the till, with small tiles eight to a row for a busy morning and an optional parcel counter.
It is the same software as our retail EPOS system. If you run a convenience store or off-licence as well, see our convenience store EPOS.

From £349 + VAT upfront plus a monthly service plan, on a 12-month minimum term. See EPOS pricing · Compare the two packages · Book a free demo
What does a newsagent EPOS system do?
It sells fast and keeps the news paperwork straight:
- News sale-or-return: each delivery and its returns recorded, with the supplier credit.
- News vouchers: taken at the till, with a redemption report.
- Age checks: lottery, scratchcards and tobacco ask for an age check with the date of birth.
- Paper bills: customer accounts with credit limits and statements.
- Parcels: drop-offs and collections with an ID check note and the carrier manifest, as an optional module.
- Fast selling: scan, tap or search, and the amount goes straight to the card machine.

Newspapers and magazines on sale-or-return
Enter each delivery note and the returns against it under Services → Newspapers & magazines, and the supplier credit is recorded with it. You can see what came in, what went back and what you are owed, without a separate notebook. News vouchers are taken at the till, and a redemption report lists them.
Paper bills on account
Customers who settle their paper bill weekly or monthly can have a customer account, with a credit limit and statements. Statements go by print, PDF, email or WhatsApp. The newsagent set-up also has the VAT summary ready to run, which helps when zero-rated newspapers sit next to standard-rated sweets and cards. Our guide to VAT rates at the till explains the set-up, and what an end-of-day Z report is covers cashing up.
Age checks on lottery, scratchcards and tobacco
Lottery products, scratchcards and tobacco ask for an age check with the date of birth, and the Age-restricted sales report is set up from day one. A till prompt backs up your Challenge 25 policy; our age verification checklist covers the rest of the routine.

What the monthly Cloud & Care plan covers
The monthly fee is a service plan, not a payment for the hardware, which is yours. It covers:
- Cloud: sales, products and reports sync to the web portal, so you can see your reports and manage your tills from anywhere.
- Automatic cloud backup of your products, sales and settings.
- Software updates: new features, security updates and UK rule changes such as VAT, installed automatically.
- UK support: remote support Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm, by phone, WhatsApp and email.
- Card machine as set out for your package, and set-up help: we help load your products and train your team, as agreed in your order.
Key terms: 12-month minimum term · No change-of-mind returns · Card processing fees separate · Business customers only. Read the terms and the refund and cancellation policy before you order.
Newsagent EPOS: frequently asked questions
Can I track newspaper and magazine returns?
Yes. Enter each delivery note and the returns against it under Services → Newspapers & magazines.
Can I run a parcel counter?
Yes, as an optional module: accept drop-offs and collections, note the ID check, and see today’s carrier manifest.
Can I bring my products from my old till?
Yes. Import products, offers, customers, suppliers, users and stock from Excel or CSV, or straight from eight other till systems.
Which card machines work with it?
DNA Payments, Teya and Dojo terminals are built in, so the amount goes to the card machine and is never keyed twice.
Can I have more than one till?
Yes. Add extra tills in the same shop; each keeps selling if the link to the main till drops and catches up afterwards.
Is it made for UK shops?
Yes: UK VAT and VAT return, UK shop time on every report, and UK rules such as Challenge 25 age checks, price-marked packs and HFSS offers.
Is there a minimum term?
Yes, 12 months on both packages. You can’t cancel for convenience during the term: ending early means an early termination charge based on the monthly fees left. After that the plan runs monthly and you can end it with 30 days’ written notice. Cancelling a Direct Debit or card payment does not end the agreement.
What happens if my card machine application isn’t approved?
The Complete Package needs your card machine (merchant) application to be approved. If it isn’t approved, you can switch to the Upfront Package and pay the difference, or have a full refund, including the first month.
